BuildingAssets developed out of a Big Lottery funded project supporting community buildings which Voluntary Action Islington ran from 2009 to 2014. The Community Buildings Project provided a range of types of support, particularly support with marketing, leases, fund-raising, quality standards and governance. We were also involved with all stages of asset transfers. We worked with community buildings on an individual basis, ran training, helped organisations find premises, worked on joint purchasing initiatives, supported centres to gain external quality standards and developed resources.
Our experience working with a very wide range of community centres and organisations running community buildings in Islington gave us a valuable opportunity to learn what services people running community buildings wanted, and how they wanted these services to be delivered. This knowledge has informed how we have designed the Building Assets services, the aspects on which we focus, and how we work with you.
We also gained experience of working with other organisations in the field. We have a good understanding of the role of local authorities and have the ability to form productive relationships with councils, and we have relationships with the key organisations in the community buildings field.
For more information about our work see case studies.
Over 5 years the Community Buildings Project showed us the main issues for people running community buildings.
What external evaluation said about the project, showing the skills that BuildingAssets can offer you:
“Organisations that had used the project provided overwhelmingly positive feedback on the impact it had for them in terms of increasing income and reducing costs, helping them with their planning and increasing their confidence and skill to measure their impact, secure external accreditation and extend the range of their networks.”
